Shaykh Dr. Ad-Darsh Column

Assalamu 'Alaykum,

Dear subscribers,

Syed Mutawalli ad-Darsh, Imam, scholar and broadcaster: born December 26, 1930, died September 25, 1997.

As most of you might have known by now, Shaykh Syed Mutawalli Ad-Darsh have passed away recently. May Allah have mercy on him. This is obviously a great loss for us all.

Apart from his many valuable services to the Ummah, he will be remembered by us, particularly among the young Muslims, as a kind and helpful man who endeavoured to spread compassion and brotherhood amongst the Muslims, who went out of his way to show the middle path of Islam.

His column in our homepage was the main source of attraction, & Insha-Allah will continue to do so for the future. We are to continue broadcasting his unpublished works in our possession. And we are very regretful that we won't be able to receive anymore new questions.

To mark this very sad occasion, we include a fitting obituary from the editor of Q-News Magazine, Fuad Nahdi, where Shaykh Ad-Darsh made one of his greatest impact.

He is one of the first persons who inspired us to start our Internet services about Islam in 1995, which have grown significantly popular and beneficial in a span of few years - especially the BICNews.

1. What is the meaning of the Hadith that the devil is chained up during Ramadhan? In most peoples' experiences, evil persists all year round.

2. The Qur'an is very clear about the Hadd (punishment) for murder, adultery, slander etc. Yet there are no clear Hadd for smoking, eating pork, drinking alcohol, etc. Please clarify.
