Revision 1.9, January 1999

Assalamu 'Alaykum,
Please read the Few Important & Technical Info about BICNews. By being a member/user of BICNews, you hereby agree to abide by the terms stipulated in this information package.

Welcome To BICNews!

This mailing list is open to Muslims and non-Muslims alike. To date... after 4 years, our members come from all over the world: United Kingdom, Europe, Africa, Middle-East, Malaysia, Pakistan, Indonesia, China, India, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, South America, United States, Canada, and the Australasia.

The Belfast Islamic Centre is the largest mosque in Northern Ireland. Our Web site contains useful information on Islam and Q&A by the late Shaykh Dr. Darsh, chairman of the UK Shari'ah Council. It also stores contemporary & lively articles.

BICNews have been running since 1995, inspired by the late Shaykh Dr. Darsh. It is a Newsletter that broadcasts news and analysis around the clock, covering the whole globe, International, General, Science, Health, History, Book Reviews, Environment, Astronomy, Religion, Internet, and of course Islamic issues for FREE.

This is a unique Islamic mailing list which combines real-time news, analyses, poetry, jokes, other literary interests, and general issues, for academic usage. Our sources include Reuters and Associated Press, etc. as well as interesting extracts from Muslim Magazines such as Q-News, Impact, Fountain, and much more.

There are exchanges of thoughts, sometimes creative and constructive, among our regular columnists, scholars, and common subscribers. Our vision is to provide a service that aims to spread the message of the middle way of Islam, dissociating extremism and showing tolerance and maturity. We also hope to encourage and develop potential or able writers in their pursuit of writing contemporary issues.

Bounced Mails

BICNews will be fairly aggressive with regards to bounced mail. If your mail starts bouncing, or your mail server generates too many errors, it is likely that you will be unsubscribed from this list. You may resubscribe once the problem has been resolved.

Quota per Day

The quota for broadcasting in BICNews is around 10 per day. If you think you would be away for awhile, please make sure that you unsubscribe to avoid mail clogging in your account or to reduce clutter in you mailbox.

This is NOT a discussion list, rather it is a newsletter, therefore please make sure that you reply to the original sender, columnist, contributor or to the writer of the article, instead of replying back to BICNews.

Submitting an Article

If you want to submit an article, please send it to: for editorial consideration. Your article will then be placed in a waiting queue for broadcasting & it might not be published immediately or at all. If your article is rejected, please do not send it again. If there are problems with the content of your article, the Editors may contact & notify you of this. Remember that we have a quota of 10 per day and priorities are given to news items or any important dated issues. Please be patient. We hope that you will understand our shortcomings.

To correspond to our Editors, please send your mails to:

Normally, each posting to the list is mailed to each of the subscribers, but with the BICNews-Digest, all messages are collected into a batch and then sent together as one message. This is recommended if you do not want to handle too many mails. However, there are important points to consider before subscribing to this service:

1. Your mailbox must be able to handle more than 40 k data per mail.
2. News feeds are not real-time.
