| HTML
| The language of the web - read about it's evolution and future.
|
|---|
| HTML 3.0
| One possible future for the language of the web. Unfortunately, browser writers, like Netscape, seemed to pick and choose the bits they wanted and then did other bits the way they wanted. So much for standards.
|
|---|
| Java
| Looks set to be the operating system of the web. This distributed, object-oriented language adds true interactive power to web pages.
|
|---|
| Netscape
| Easily the market leader among web browsers, and almost certainly the most successful loss-making company in history.
|
|---|
| VRML
| If you are sick of dealing with 2D pictures on the web, and want something more, then try this 3D version that lets you move around virtual worlds. Needs a fast computer to look best.
|
|---|
| W3 Consortium
| Pretty much the keepers of the sacred flame of the WWW, responsible for co-ordinating development of the WWW, although events have overtaken them to a certain extent, unfortunately.
|
|---|
| CORBA
| Could well be the missing link, along with Java, in making the Internet and Web the solution for internal systems. A standard for cross-platform, cross-language, distributed computing.
