Music in community contexts by Anne-Marie O’Farrell

Music workshops:

Much of Anne-Marie O’Farrell’s work in this field has been under the auspices of Music Network, and on projects funded by Dublin City Council and the Arts Council of Ireland. She has worked as facilitator with, among others, violinist and music therapist Aingeala de Búrca and with flautist Ellen Cranitch. Workshops are participatory and are aimed at improving coordination, listening and creative skills in addition to working collaboratively towards an informal performance.

Anne-Marie uses these techniques with participants of all ages and is involved in this capacity with the Youth Connections for Peace project. This ecumenical venture brings together teenagers from the West Bank, Northern Ireland and Dublin to promote international understanding and aid personal development.

Anne-Marie is a regular guest lecturer at the DIT Dept of Social Sciences where she is involved in the training of healthcare staff who use music in their hospital and long-term care settings.
