Our Island, Paros
BeachesWe tend to take our beaches for granted so it is difficult to write about them. One thing I do find myself saying quite often is that Santorini is a must see for beauty but our beaches are much better. Paros has so much to see and do your time is better spent here than on any other island; it offers great beaches, lively towns and ancient sites. Truly something for everyone. There are far too many sandy beaches to enumerate so the visitor has too look a few over and decide if he wants a small cove all to himself , a wider stretch with a small taverna and a few other people or the big Golden Beach with hotels, cafes, windsurfers, waterskiing, etc. Except that is not a necessary decision because a little further around the island at Santa Maria you can find all three types in close proximity. Paros has four Blue Flag rated beaches. They are Chrysi Akti, Kolibythris, Logaras, Tserdakia. Chrysi Akti is better known as Golden Beach. It is big, wide and sandy and full of windsurfers. Of course, Paros has something for everyone. Pounda Beach Club is crowded with young bodies writhing to the endless beat of base music. North of Ambeles and South of Boutakes are small, quiet coves where you can find a small, private beach for just the two of you. Our favourite is Agri Irini which is out of the way (un-crowded) yet has a beach taverna. Families with children love Kolimbithres. There are far too many beaches to list; many have unique characteristics such as Parosporos which is noted for it’s high waves. Think what a delightful time you will having finding your favourite. Read about nude and topless beaches HERE We have photos scattered around our web site as well as in our Gallery.
Windsurfing & Kite BoardingPounda Beach (Antiparos) is known as the kite boarding capital of Greece. We are a short drive away from the base of this exciting flying sport. Karin and I enjoy reading about a destination before our journey. We find that we get more from the experience by knowing something about the area and it's history. Know Before You Go! For North American residents we highly recommend our favorite big book store, Powell's. For Europe and the rest of the world you can't go wrong with Amazon.
