Across the Bridge of Hope

By B.A. Robertson arr. by D. Simpson

Across the bridge of harmony, I hear the pipes of peace
A sad refrain that seems to call for argument to cease
Across the bridge in fields of gold the children laugh and play.
Sometimes a distant fragile thought, we'll all be there someday

The road that's marked enlightment has many twists and turns
Along the way we must be sure the bridge we build won't burn
For many hands have fashioned it, imperfect it may be
But strong enough for plenty with support from you and me

Across the bridge of hope we pass before you start to say,
You'll block our path we're coming through,
For we're carrying the hearts of those we lost along the way.

'Twas on a summer afternoon I heard the thunder roll

Unexpected, unannounced, Lord why must it be so?
For we were almost home and dry, when rain clouds crossed the sun
Though darkness fell we journey on and learn to live as one

Across the bridge of hope we pass before you start to say,
You'll block our path we're coming through
For we're carrying the hearts of those we lost along the way

Across the bridge the healing hands, reach out for all to see
When history dictates mistrust, may just be vanity
Across the bridge we'll make our home and raise the common glass
Lay down the vengeful sword my friend it's buried in the past
Across the bridge of hope we pass - to find our peace at last.
