The following extract is taken from the report of the Headmaster in which he responds to the question "Is Blackrock College a successful school?".

Success?

"Blackrock is not a temple to continuity and permanence, neither are we complacent in the status quo. Rather we strive to inculcate a sharp sense of justice and a desire for a more caring and compassionate society, independence of mind and respect for the dignity of all.

"Is Blackrock successful?" This is a difficult question. But if our young men leave Blackrock with a holy impatience for the coming of a better world and a readiness to work at its creation; if they look forward to a world with greater equality, with more compassion, which provides all with the food, clothing and shelter needed for delight in living; if they know deep down that neglect, gross inequality and suffering are not inevitable but are to be worked against, to be impatient with, to be angry about; if they do not settle down and seek happiness in a world that rewards aggression and ephemeral success; if they are caring as Christ cared for us then - Yes, we are successful."
