The moving mountain
On the 19th of September 2003 a frightening natural disaster happened in Pollatomas. Miraculously nobody was killed or even injured but that's not to say theycouldn't have. The natural disaster was a landslide. It was terrible! It swept over the road and down to the sea it started about 100 yards below an Irish aviation radar tower. If it were any higher and it almost definitely would have taken it with it. There was also a woman who refused to get on the rescue helicopter! That was all bad but the very worst of it was in Pollatomas where there are two graveyards: old and new attached to each other. To the horror of a lot of people the mud swept through them like a knife through butter. There are a lot of repairs going on but I don't think Pollatomas will ever be the same again. By Robert
The
landslide
One night there was a heavy storm. It flooded the mountains and there was
landslide. It was very bad. My nan had to be rescued because she lived on
top of the hill. All the houses in Pullathomas are destroyed. There was mud
in sea because the mud came tumbling down. Some of the houses still have mud
around them.
The graveyard was destroyed
as well as the houses. It was very bad. There was loads of bridges broken
but nobody was killed or injured thank God. People were very worried. There
are six coffins in the sea and three are found. It is very sad in the graveyard.
People are comeing to pray for there loved ones. That is the story about the
landslide.
