This term Red Connolly came to the school and helped us form our own Samba Band. Some instruments were made form recycled material like carpet rolls with durable bin bags stretched across the top and secured with masking tape which we used as drums. We also made bass drums out of big plastic bottles and water containers. We had real instruments as well as recycled ones. Each class had their own rhythm pattern which had to perform at the same time. We practiced weekly and on the 15th of April, a man called Mr. O’Donnell came to film our samba band as it is going to be used on a Department of Education web site. We hope that other schools might view it so that they would form their own Samba Band. For our performance we wore headbands with feathers and two black and red stripes painted on either side of our face. It was very exciting and we all enjoyed it.
