Something Fishy

On Monday, the 23rd of November 2009, a man called Bryan Ward came to our school to introduce the Something Fishy programme to us.
Before we even came into the classroom, Bryan Ward was very busy setting up his laptop, his projector and even his own screen.
When he set up everything, he did his presentation. He talked about lots of different fish like how there’s a difference between a sea trout and a river trout, how the trout lays its eggs, and why you shouldn’t take the hook out of a pikes mouth with your bare hands when it is still alive.
After that he talked about salmon and it was weirdly interesting. Did you know that the salmon changes colour wherever it is? For example, the salmon changes to a silvery colour when it is in the sea and changes red when it is in a river. The salmon also returns to its birthplace after around seven years at sea.
Finally, when it was all over, we all asked brilliant questions to Bryan and he was clever enough to answer all of them. We learned a lot about fish that day and we are going on a fishing field trip in Spring so we are all looking forward to that.

BRÁDAN

We started a project about fish called the Something Fishy project. We started it when a man called Brian showed us loads of things about fish. He told us that we should start a project about fish so we did.
And we called that project BRÁDAN. We all had ideas of what we should do for it so we decided on one using animation. We used márla, wire, googly eyes and sea and river backgrounds for it but what would it be about? We all decided it would be about a salmon’s life cycle.
A few weeks later, when we were nearly done, Brian came to take us to Glenomoy River. When we got there and he showed us some fish like salmon, trout and he even found some tiny minnows.
When we got back we had learned lots about and we had a good day. The whole day was great and we all enjoyed our selves.

Bradan the Movie
As part of our Something Fishy project we decided to make an I-Kit movie using animations. We started anyway with no complains only to find that it wasn’t as easy as we thought. Joe and Mrs. Connolly took a good part of the day just to get 16 seconds because of all the mistakes they made. You would need to take around 100 pictures to make  only 1 second of animated film. So who ever reads this I hope you know the pain and suffering that went into the project. We even had to go to Glenamoy River to shoot a scene there for it. I made the fish for it from márla and Kaydean made the background. All though it seemed to take like forever to make the movie, we still had great fun doing it.
We entered the competition and we waited a while to see did we win but sadly we didn’t. Throughout all the time it took to make it we all enjoyed our selves and had fun.
