Our Phone Call from the Arafura Sea

The Phone Call

We have been following Mick Bird on his journey from Weipa to Christmas Island. We arranged for Mick to ring us via satellite. We listened to Mick on a video from the website, he said that it costs him $3 a minute on his phone. Mick said he would ring us at 10 o’clock so everybody was quite nervous. When Mick didn’t ring at 10 o’clock the teacher decided to correct homework. While she was doing this the phone rang, she let gave a gasp. When she answered the phone it was someone looking for Mr. McGarry. When the master left everybody got back to work and waited. At 11 o’clock the phone rang it was Mick. The teacher was talking to him at first. We were hoping to ask a few questions but only managed four. The phone line wasn’t great but we could hear him. He told us that the waters he is in were to deep to anchor so he lets the boat drift at night. He told us that the most amazing thing he has seen yet is the sky at night. He also told us that he would love to come and visit us here in Ireland!

It was a very enjoyable experience.
