A Couple of years ago a London based TV company came over and gave me a screen test.
Now, anyone who has ever met me will know I'm not exactly a pretty sight and this
was further exacerbated at the time by a particularly bad dose of the flu. But the
show must go on, as we old thespians say! And three trips later - as much down to my
inability to catch a bass for the camera as the cameraman's sudden discovery of Guinness
- we finally managed to bring out "Real Fishing with Bob Moss"
We tried not to make it just another fishing DVD, because fishing on the Dingle Peninsula is not just about fishing.
Any of you who have been here will know this and it's why most of you will return.
But we do have fish - there's no deigning that - and for those of you who want a taste
of the good life, you should find enough marks and techniques to enable you to go home with a story or two of your own.
Perseverance, I think is the key issue here. The right place, at the right time of
tide, and then perseverance with a well presented bait. Sooner or later this is going
to pay off; and if you do have to wait, well then, isn't success all the more sweet?
And believe me, after seeing bass, getting hook-up after hook-up and missing them,
trying to keep one on long enough for the cameraman to get his act together -
only then to loose it when he did - the bass that we did get; I can tell you,
I was never so pleased to see one come ashore in my life!
To me, the stories are the best part.
Almost knocking myself senseless entering one of the beehive huts at Fahan with tourists backed
up while we did the filming - and them all thinking I was a famous TV star! Climbing down a
cliff face at Dunmore Head with a fly rod in my teeth to try and land a 6 lb Pollack on the other end.
At least 12 takes standing outside the schoolhouse built for the film 'Ryan's Daughter' because I just couldn't
remember my lines and the constant interaction between producer and cameraman. To me, it was worth doing
the DVD simply for those moments alone.
And I've already had one review - from a mate who was shown the first rough draft.
"God, you're ugly!" from which you have to admit, it can only get better!
"Real Fishing with Bob Moss" - a small taste of my world, which I hope you'll enjoy.

REVIEWS
"Bob Moss, the renowned angling writer…has produced an excellent sea angling DVD entitled 'Real Fishing with Bob Moss' showing his skills in catching wrasse,
pollack and, that king of sea fish, the bass. The commentary is lighthearted and clear and he avoids the 'techno-speak' so
beloved of some so that even I can benefit from it. It might be just the thing for your Christmas stocking - even if you have to buy it yourself!"
The Countryman's Weekly
"This is an extension of Bob's written work about fishing the Dingle Peninsula. It's an informative piece that offers advice about how to fish
the various marks there, as well as stories and some history about the area…Great viewing for any keen angler who is considering a trip
to the southwest coast of Ireland."
Total Sea Fishing
"The DVD 'Real Fishing with Bob Moss' is educational, wonderful to watch and excellent for low profile anglers who wish to make a start on the Irish coast.
As well as tips on fishing for wrasse he demonstrates three ways to fish for pollack, that gangster of the Irish coastal waters,
and finally he gives thorough instructions on catching the third fish, sea bass. Moss is a good storyteller; his eyes twinkle with
enthusiasm and when he catches a fish he gives a joyous shout, completely forgetting the camera as he parries the run of a pollack.
It would be hard to find a better guide than Moss's new DVD."
