Archbishop Dermot Clifford visited the school on the last day of November. After he had met with the staff at morning break-time, staff and students adjourned to the Parish Church for a prayer service conducted by the Archbishop. The central theme of the prayer service was the Environment: the world is God’s gift to us and we have a responsibility to cherish and care for it. Dr. Clifford emphasised that having a respectful attitude towards the things of the Earth such as water and cleanliness was part and parcel of a truly religious and Christian approach to life. n advance of the prayer service, First Year class groups designed large colourful posters that portrayed contrasting aspects of care and destruction of the environment. These posters were on display in the church on the day. The school choir and instrumentalists combined most effectively under the direction of Mr. Murray in rendering the sacred songs for the prayer service. The readers and the general body of students were most impressive.
The chaplain visited our past students during November. There were gatherings in Cork, Waterford, Limerick and Dublin. College life presents students with many challenges. It was good to learn that the great majority of our past students are handling these challenges well. A word of encouragement to anyone finding the going tough was welcomed.
The Parents Association marked its Tenth Birthday with Mass in the Library Rooms on the night of Friday 3rd December. The present committee members were joined by virtually all past committee members and by many members of management, staff and student council.
Representatives from CURA spoke to all 3rd Year class groups recently. CURA is a voluntary agency within the diocese of Cashel & Emly that gives support to women who are pregnant and in distress.
