LEAVING CERTIFICATE APPLIED

What is the Leaving Certificate Applied?

The Leaving Certificate Applied is a distinct, self-contained two-year programme aimed at preparing students for adult and working life. The programme puts an emphasis on forms of achievement and excellence, which the established Leaving Certificate has not recognised in the past.

Leaving Certificate Applied in Cashel Community School

The Leaving Certificate Applied Course attracted twenty students at Fifth Year level. The highlights of the year so far have included the fact that sixteen students completed the Safe Pass Certificate Course, which is now a legal requirement for anyone working in the construction industry. Another highlight is the fact that the 6th Year L.C.A. class completed a Success Skills programme in conjunction with the staff of Alza. This programme which focussed on developing interpersonal skills and interview techniques proved to be extremely popular with the students. Both fifth and sixth year students have successfully completed a two-week work experience programme in a variety of locations.

LCA Work Experience

5 and 6 LCA went on Work Experience 8th – 19th November. It was a huge success. Employers were delighted with students and gave vary positive reports. It was encouraging to see the wide range of jobs students undertook. Many have got part-time work as a result. We are very grateful to employers who give so much time and support to students during this time.
