Cashel, Connemara

Cashel gets its name from the earth and stone bank ringfort which surrounds the old part of the graveyard in High Cashel.  Beside this graveyard there is a Holy Well. Situated in this village is the beautiful church of St.James. It was built in the year 1912. The masses here are being said by priests from nearby Recess and Roundstone,  having lost our own priest in 1993.

There are Seventy-one pupils in St Theresa’s N.S Cashel. There are eight classes. The school was built in 1949. There are three classrooms. There is a prefab just behind the school into which we squeeze 5th and 6th class, a computer and a large  aquarium. There are three teachers, the Principal Mrs Higgins, Mrs Stephens and Mrs Walsh.

Our school overlooks Cashel bay. Cashel lies along the Western seaboard of Connemara at the head of beautiful Bertraghboy Bay, in the southwest of County Galway. To the north, Cashel Hill rises over 1000 feet with its breathtaking views of the jagged coastline - saffron coloured by seaweed covered rocks and featuring many picturesque stone built harbours and slipways.
