    Teachers, Why should your school take up chess?

NEWS:
The Finals of ESB Checkmate were held in the Royal Dublin Hotel O Connell St Dublin on Tuesday May 28th. 72 teams of 5 attended. The event was won by Togher NS Cork City, second were St Josephs The Mardyke Cork City and a team from St Aidans Shannon Co Clare were third.
Gonzaga College Dublin won the ESB Checkmate Secondary schools section. Colaiste Sproid Naoimh of Cork city were second and Mitchesltown CBS were third.

The first Scholastic Chess Club inter-county chess event was held in Kilkenny on Saturday June 22nd. Teams from fourteen counties participated. The event was won by Tipperary, Kerry were second and Dublin were third. Another Scholastic Chess Club inter-county event is planned for Kilkenny on Saturday November 23rd.2002.
