![]() Day Tour of the Killarney Lakes and Gap of Dunloe Start: Ross Castle (lake side) in Killarney at approx. 10am. Finish: back in Killarney approx. 6.30 pm.
Part1 Pickup from your Hotel/B&B. Trip starts lake side at 10am with a 2.5 hour boat trip shooting the rapids at the Brickeens Bridge (no danger) then on to Lord Brandon's cottage for a light lunch. (Home-made Soup with brown bread & salad price included) Part 2 Start of a 6.5 mile walk through the Black valley, the last place in Ireland to be connected up to the electrical grid, this in my mind is "one of the most wonderful hidden valley in the Country", even on a wet day. Now this is where our guides show their true calling. Nature-History & Wildlife. Geography Plants People & what life is like today & the past for the local people, human interest, a truly great running commentary which will both enlighten & entertain. Part 3 Crossing over from the Blackvalley to the Brida Valley where sadly all the inhabitants have immigrated & only their ghosts are left (you can see them after a good many whiskies) This is where a our mini-bus will pick them up & drive back to the Climbers Inn for a light supper of Highland lamb casserole with spuds & plenty of butter. (exactly what the people in the Brida valley ate in the olden days) price not included in tour followed by Tea/Coffee & a dessert. While the guests are eating, a chap will be playing some local Irish tunes on the "box". (not the usual staged Irish crap) After which back to Killarney & happy dreams. This is a high quality tour. |
