The local boys' national school is situated at the top of Church Street, beside the old church tower. It has had many famous teachers and many famous pupils. Its best known head master was Bryan McMahon. Bryan achieved national and international fame as a dramatist, short story writer, novelist, balladeer and lecturer. The story of his long and productive life is best told by himself in his autobiography, "The Master".
