The Seminars
There are two seminars held each year since 1998. One
for young people aged between 13 and 17 years and the other for
people aged over 17 years. Previous to this, one seminar was held
each year to cater for all age groups. The largest of these seminars
ever held was in 1996, when it was held in Bundoran.
1997 was Belfast's turn and after this
the two seminar idea was born.
In 1998 Gormanston hosted
the junior seminar and Tralee hosted
the senior one. 1999 saw the senior one return to Tralee and the junior
one in N.U.I. Galway. In the year 2000 the
senior seminar was held in Rooskey and the
junior one returned to Gormanston for a two
year stint.
The seminars are controlled by the National Youth Committee
and their origin dates back to the late 1980's. Many new friendships
are made at these seminars and they play an important role in the
development of young pioneers. The organising of the seminars falls
to individual diocesan, regional or centre committees and they are responsible
for all financial arrangements relating to them.
