DBSC - Race Management Development Day :: Saturday 29th March 2008

DBSC - Race Management / Race Officer Development Day ::  29th March 2008

As you are aware our club, DBSC, relies on a core of volunteers to run the extensive racing programme. For 2008, DBSC needs to augment the Race Officer team.

  • We are looking for volunteers to attend a Race Officer training day in the RIYC on Saturday 29 March.

  • It is hoped that following this training session, each attendee would be in a position to support racing on at least one Thursday or Saturday during the season. This would be alone (if skilled / familiar enough) or in support to one of our experienced race officers (to gain familiarity with the DBSC systems of race management).

Without volunteer input we would not have such effective racing throughout the season. The backbone of DBSC's reliability and performance is a selected core of volunteers covering all aspects of racing from Mac Lir and Hut duty to results and fleet management via Class Captains, rescue personnel, but key to succesful racing for all is the team of Race Officers.

This year is the first time since 2004 that Dublin Bay SC will run a Race Officer development programme. DBSC will provide further training and support before a new volunteer takes the full reins (e.g. liaising with a skilled R-O on Mac Lir or at the Hut).

  • If you are interestd in joining a skilled group of Race Officers, please contact Brian Mackle (Rear Commodore), over the coming days (mobile 086 85 93 873) or Dónal O'Sullivan at 01 289 85 65 (e-mail HonSec@dbsc.org).

The arrangments are :

  • Venue: RIYC (Library).
    Start : 10.00.hrs.
    Finish : 16.00.hrs.

  • Snack lunch (sandwiches and soup) will be provided on the day.

  • The course will consist of classroom sessions and will deal with DBSC race management procedures and the relevant ISAF regulations. A follow up facility to go afloat on Mac Lir will be arranged as appropriate.
