Ferry services to Cork

Cork Ferryport is situated at Ringaskiddy, 16kms SE via N28.  A connecting bus service is available to the city centre from the ferryport.

Roscoff (France) - Cork operated by Brittany Ferries

Brittany Ferries Reservations: Tel:  (FR) 08 03 82 82 82  (IE) 021 427 7801 (DE) 0699 588 1717 (ES) 942 214 500 FR-Minitel 3615 FERRYPLUS   Other countries call +33 2 98 29 28 00

See company website for further information.

There is a rail service between Roscoff and Morlaix (24kms).  Morlaix is on the main Paris Atlantique TGV high speed rail route (Morlaix - Paris journey time 3h46 - reservation obligatory on most TGV services)   SNCF rail schedules, fare information and online reservations. SNCF call center tel 3635 (EUR 0,34/min) - for schedule information, reservations, real-time arrival information, etc.  Unfortunately it is no longer possible to contact this French rail monopoly call center from outside France by telephone!  Beware too that their train schedule website is regrettably bureaucratic and un-user friendly  - eg searching later or earlier trains than one's original proposition requires one to fill out a new form,  they will spam you with unwanted pop-up windows, and the information they provide may be incomplete - ie some trains services may be missing from the schedules they present (often trains that are operated by train operators based in neighbouring countries serving points within France).   In contrast, Deutsche Bahn's website provides a faster, more user-friendly portal to Europe's rail services.

Roscoff is reached by the E50 from Paris.

Driving distances to Roscoff - Paris 560kms (5h30) Brussels 860 kms (8h00)  Frankfurt 1127kms (10h45) Toulouse 880kms (9h45)

If your journey involves transiting the Paris area, from the South we would suggest the "outer ring" system, avoiding the BP (ie N104 > A10/E50 in the direction of Chartres, Le Mans and Rennes for Roscoff.  Alternatively, for Le Harve and Cherbourg take the N104 to N118 and then A13/E5 in the direction of Rouen.  Traffic forecast maps for your intended date of travel on the French autoroute system are available from the ASF website, as is information on real-time traffic conditions.    Traffic conditions are also available by telephone on +33 8 92 68 10 77 (0,34 EUR/min in France).

Fuel costs in Ireland

Fuel costs in Ireland are at about European average levels.
Fuel prices in Northern Ireland are similar to Britain.

Up to date
Irish fuel prices - note the prices in this website are quoted in Euro cents per litre(er). If you wish to convert the price per liter into a price per US gallon for comparison, multiply the Euro cents per liter figure by 3.785. This will give you the price in Euro cents per US gallon. You can get the current exchange rate for the Euro here.Americans should bear in mind that European cars tend to be more economical in terms of MPG than the typical US mid sized car.

Car advertisements in Ireland show fuel consumption in terms of litre(er)s per 100kms. To convert a litres per 100km figure into US miles per gallon divide the litres per 100 kms figure into 235.2 eg 6 litres per 100kms = 39.2 US MPG. To convert into British MPG divide the litres per 100kms into 282.5.
