Netd@ys runs from 18-24th of November 2002. It is an European based project to encourage the creation of projects based on new media and on-line technology. This year the Netd@ys theme is "Image" and the participants have the opportunity to interact with others who share their interests throughout Europe and beyond. Our school has been successful in being awarded a Netd@ys "label" which is now widely recognised as a brand name for quality for our CD YEARBOOK. This is a MULTIMEDIA CD created with the aid of our iMacs and iMovie plus the programme HYPERSTUDIO. The idea for the CD was based on the introduction into the school of the LCVP pilot project in 1999. Simply to put Leaving Certificate project material onto CDs instead of the ordinary paper submission. So successful was the project that in this school a subsequent application for a Socrates Project submitted through Leargas with schools in Norway and Italy continued with the use of iMovie and HYPERSTUDIO. The CD has over 400 photographs and over 2 hours of Quicktime movies which aims at providing a multimedia record of the girls six years in the school. Each person using the CD is greeted with the school gates on opening the Cd and an enter button. Clicking the enter button takes you to the index page which invites you to explore either the CLASSES or VIDEO links. The Class pages show a personal page for each student and has their photograph from first year plus their Debs photo following their Leaving Certificate examinations in June 2002. Girls also submitted photographs that they had taken while in school themselves and so a very personal multimedia record has been created. This is our second year to produce such a yearbook. This year we also have included the full school musical that the students did when in transition year in 2000. Again we have used the export function from iMovie to achieve a Quicktime compression that means that the total data on our CD fits very well on a standard 700MB CD. By using Hyperstudio and Quicktime the projects which are completed totally on Macs are TOTALLY CROSS PLATFORM. They play on any computer, either Mac or a PC running Windows.
