Drumalee Park Development
In 1976, the Chairman Mr. Matthew O'Reilly and Shane Dempsey
met Mr. Bert Flood in an effort to buy a field from him
which he had offered for sale at the time. They then held
a most successful collection in the area. They got a grant
of £15,000 sanctioned by the then Minister for Education,
Mr. John Wilson, TD, under the Youth Employment Scheme.
They also obtained at two different stages two amenity grants
from Cavan County Council. All this enabled work to progess
in stages. The work on the playing area was carried out
by Mr. James Brady of Crosserlough, planned and supervised
by club member, Frank Connolly. The entrance and car park
was developed by John Nulty, Tierquin. To the authorities
of St. Patrick's College, they were grateful for providing
them with a right of way from the Drumcrave roadway. Also
to Cavan County Council for leasing the land required to
complete the playing area. The dressing rooms were built
by AnCO under a scheme for the training of youth. They were
thankful to the officials and staff of AnCO for their input,
both technical and financial. Mr. Denis Condon, Manager
of AIB, Cavan, who was also a club member, was always a
great help and adviser.
The club standard bearers of the 'fifties, 'sixties and
'seventies, who are alive and well today, can view with
pride this fine park and dressing rooms, now the new home
of the little club that they did so much to nurse along.
Drumalee club hopes that the youth of tomorrow will get
as much satisfaction out of it as the development commmittee
have got in providing the park and clubhouse for them.
