Praying and Working for the Ordination of Women in the Roman Catholic Church

The World is Changing

From 1993 to 2012 BASIC worked for the single issue of women's ordination. This topic is now firmly established in the public consciousness, and is included among the five objectives of We Are Church Ireland. In order to maximise resources and support other necessary church reforms, BASIC members voted in March 2012 to merge into We Are Church Ireland.

On Obedience

Three actions by the Vatican in April 2012 caused concern in Ireland and around the world. Pope Benedict's message on Holy Thursday, the silencing of a number of priests who spoke out for reform, and the appointment of a commission of bishops to reform the Leadership Conference of Women Religious in the United States, all stressed the supremacy of obedience, in the Vatican's view.

We have seen that where obedience is set above truth, fear is set above love.

Is this the message of Jesus?
