This Code of Behaviour and Discipline has been drafted by the teachers and the Board of Management of St. Mary's National School, Effin, Kilmallock. Co. Limerick., and together with the parents has been adopted with effect from December 1998.

aims
bullet The sound, intellectual and religious devlopment of each pupil, ensuring the protection of his/hear rights and the rights of others.
bullet The orderly and efficient running of the school as an educational and social institution
bullet We feel that these aims can be achieved only by the mutual cooperation of teachers, management, parents and pupils.

Rules
bullet Punctuality:- Assembly 9.20 a.m. Departure 3 p.m. Morning break 11 a.m. Lunch Time 12.30-1.00 p.m.
bullet Afternoon break 2 p.m. Absence or early departure requires a note signed by parent.
bullet Homework should be supervised by parent.
bullet Pupils should be attentive and respectful to teachers and fellow puils during class periods. This attitude should also extend to school visitors. bullet Running and horseplay is forbidden within the school building
bullet Pupils should respect their own, fellow-pupils and school property.
bullet Pupils are trained in, and should feel responsible for personal and school cleanliness.
bullet Physically or verbally hurting fellow pupils is forbidden, as is any form of bullying, and any instances should be reported.
bullet Bad language and profanity is forbidden.
bullet Pupils may not leave the school grounds withoug permission.
bullet Chewing gum, taytos, biscuits, sweets, snack bars or fizzy drinks are not allowed.
bullet The school uniform is navy blue and white in colour. Boys will wear navy blue pants and pullover and white shirts. Girls will wear navy blue dresses and pullovers or cardigans and white blouses. The school uniform will be worn every day during the school year.
bullet All children will come to school washed and wearing clean socks and clothes. It it recommended that a regular check be kept on your child's hair for head lice.

Santcions
bullet Minor misdemeanors, lack of effort at work and in class, or inattention by advising and reasoning with the child, or detention.
bullet Serious misdemeanors such as challenging school authority, assault on a fellow-pupil by withdrawal of privileges, report to parent.
bullet Gross misconduct or serious disruptive behaviour, to be discussed with parents and notified to the Board of Management.
