Effin N.S. vs Bulgaden N.S.

On Monday the 23/4/02 we played a Schools' hurling match against Bulgaden National School. The match was played in Effin G.A.A pitch. There were nine players on each team and twenty minutes a half. The field was short, not the full length and the goals were a smaller than the regular size.

When the referee and the other team were ready, we all went out on the field. We practised for a while and then the ref got the game under way. The first few minutes were tight but we got three points, two from play and one from a free. Kevin Shanahan scored two great points and Hugh O'Neill got a fantastic point from a difficult angle. Just before half time Stephen O'Keeffe managed to score a goal with five minutes to go. Bulgaden had some great chances but the Effin goalie James O'Leary managed to keep them out. With about a minute to go Bulgaden got a brilliant point from a long distance. At half time the score was 1-3 to 0-1.

When the second half got under way Bulgaden were first on the scoreboard. Hugh O'Neill got another free and sent it straight over the bar. With ten minutes to go we brought on a substitute, Padraig McCarthy, and with his first touch he sent the sliotar flying under the goalies legs. With a few minutes to go Bulgaden came bursting forward. They were fouled and they got a penalty It was a great shot but we managed to keep the ball out of the net and tap it over the bar. When James pucked out the ball, it was over. We shook hands. The score at the end was 2-4 to 0-2. We got dressed and went back to School.

Schools' Football League 1998/1999.

The first game that we played was against Mainistir at our G.A.A. field. We were all looking forward to the game hoping to win the match. It was a great sporting game with a lot of good play by both teams. We won this game on a lovely sunny afternoon. Our next outing was against Banogue. The game was played in Effin. We went into this game feeling very confident that we would win seeing that we won the previous game. At half time the score was 4 goals and 3 points to 4points in favour of Banogue. The final score was Banogue 6 goals and 7 points to Effin's 7 points. We were very disappointed. A trip to Martinstown for our next outing! Not so confident now! But we played our best.

Martinstown played very well. The scores were level many times during the match. But in the end we scored the winning point to book a place for us in the final. We would again be playing Banogue. Rain, rain, rain and the Final was delayed. Two months later we played Banouge in Bruree. The weather conditions were bad but the match still went ahead. At half time the score was six points to two points in favour of Effin. During the second half Effin dominated scoring 4 goals and 6 points. Effin won the match with flying colors. Our first Football victory! We were all delighted.
