TOWN Under-21's were again in action against their Longford
Town counterparts on Monday night, this time in the Enda McGuill
League Cup.
The sides met just a week ago in the League, when Longford
ran out 4 - 1 winners. However, it was the home side who had
the better of it this time round and progressed to the next
round on a 2 - 1 scoreline.
Stephen Mullan grabbed Town's first goal after 11 minutes,
when a good ball in from Carmine Russo wasn't fully cleared,
and the striker finished well from the right hand side of
the box.
Kevin Cummins extended the lead six minutes into the second
half, when getting on to a flicked-on Robert Forde kick-out,
before cooly slotting the ball past the advancing 'keeper.
Longford made for a nervous final ten minutes, when they
pulled one back after a quick break from a Town corner. However,
they couldn't force the games to extra time, and Colm Muldoon's
men deservedly progressed. |
