27/08/03 - Under-21's Go Out To Bohs

The Under-21's lost their game last evening against Bohs. A single second half goal from Brian Warren was enough to give Bohs the win, and a place in the last four of the Under-21 League Cup.

Athlone's best chance of the night fell to Mark Sherlock, but one on one with the keeper, the keeper saved with his feet, and Andy Mullin shot wide from the rebound.

Thanks to everyone who did come down to watch the game. It was definitely the biggest attendance at an Under-21 game this season. Your support was greatly appreciated.

The Under-21's are back in League action this Sunday August 31st. Dublin City are the visitors and the kickoff is at 12 noon.

22/08/03 - Town Taste Victory!

Athlone Town beat Limerick FC two nil on Friday night in Saint Mel's Park in series 18 of the eircom League First Division.

Second half goals from Eric Molloy - his second in two games since returning from injury, and a first ever goal for Ger O'Brien were enough to give Athlone all three points.

The Club were delighted to have the U-12 Community Games All-Ireland Girl Soccer Champions, Drum/Clonown in attendance on the night. Well done to the girls and everybody involved in what was a fantastic achievement.

Anthony Allen won the latest heat of the half-time penalty shoot-out competition. Anthony converted all three of his spot kicks to progress to the semi finals of the competition. He beat fellow Temple Villa team mates Kieran Egan and Kieran Martin to do so. Ronan Farrell was between the sticks, and did his best to thwart all three.

Best of luck in the next round Anthony.

21/08/03 - Congratulations!

Congratulations to the Bealnamulla girls who represented Drum/Clonown at the community games in Mosney last weekend. The Connaught Champions met fellow Midland League team, and Leinster Champions, Killey from Tullamore in the All-Ireland semi final. With no goals coming in normal or extra time, it went to a penalty shootout which the local girls won 3-1.

This set up an All-Ireland Final date with Munster Champions Owenabue Valley from Cork. A second half goal from Blana Gately gave Drum/Clonown the lead. They kept this advantage until five minutes to go, when they were pegged back to one all. However, captain Niamh O'Brien stepped up to the spot in injury time to fire home a penalty, and claim the All-Ireland title.

Well done to all the girls from everyone at Athlone Town Football Club.

20/08/03 - Under-21's Go Down

The Under-21's traveled to the AUL in Dublin last Saturday afternoon August 16th to take on Shelbourne for the first time this season.

Unfortunately Athlone came out on the wrong side of a 2-0 scoreline, though the sides went in all square at half time.

John Conway was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet for Athlone after a good cross from Tervor Moylan. Mark Sherlock and Michael Harney also saw good efforts go just wide.

The Town went a goal down seven minutes into the second half after a quick free kick was taken five yards from where it should have been, and was duly tucked away to the back of the net.

13/08/03 - Best Of Luck!

The Club would like to wish Alan Kelly and Damien Rushe all the best as they fly out to South Korea this week to take part in the 2003 World Student Games.

Both players have been in great form lately, with Rushe scoring his first ever goal for the Club against Kildare County two weeks ago, while Kelly scored his first ever goal for the Club last weekend against Bray Wanderers.

Both players will be sorely missed for the Club's next two games against Limerick FC and Sligo Rovers.

13/08/03 - Welcome!

Welcome to the new Official Website of Athlone Town Football Club.

Alot of work has gone into the construction of this site, but if you come across any mistakes, or would like to see anything else on the site, please let us know by emailing us at info@athlonetownfc.com.

Please bear with us as we finish off any unfinished sections on the site.

You can take a more active role in the site, and keep in contact with Town fans the world over, by coming into the forum at http://athlonetown.irishfootie.net.

These are very exciting times for Athlone Town Football Club. The Club is well into implementing it's local playing policy, giving young local players such as Alan Kelly and Damien Rushe their chance in the eircom League.

The Club will also soon begin construction of it's new all seater stadium at Lissywolan, Athlone. Details of how you can participate in this once in a lifetime project can be obtained here.

Finally, the Club is busy trying to comply with the new UEFA Licencing Laws which will come into effect next year. These laws range from playing and trainging facilities to finanial matters and youth structures. To make sure we meet all the criteria, we need more bodies to get involved in the Club. If you feel you can help the Club out in any way, please contact us by emailing info@athlonetownfc.com, or ring 090 6498649.

Thank you, and we hope you enjoy the site.
