Mary Banotti worked as a nurse in the USA, Canada, England, Italy and Africa. While in Africa, was recruited to give mass anti-measles vaccinations and it was here she developed a life long interest in development issues.

Joined Irish Distillers (1972-84) as Nurse/Industrial Welfare Officer and set up the Employee Welfare & Health Systems in the Company.

Elected to the European Parliament, representing the Dublin Euro Constituency in June 1984. Re-elected in June 1989 and 1994.

Mary Banotti has been nominated for the European of the Year Award in 1991/92/94/95 and 96.

Co-founder of the Rutland Centre for alcoholic treatment and Chairperson of the Rutland Centre Board for 12 years (1975-87).
