Ms. Adi Roche

Born on 11th July 1955 in Clonmel, the youngest of four children.

Employed by Aer Lingus Marketing Department 1975-1982

1976 Married Seán Dunne, a music teacher

1982 Began working as a full time volunteer for Irish CND. Devised 'Peace Education Programme' for schools and ran 'Peace Education Classes' in over 50 schools.

1990 Initiated the 'Chernobyl Children's Project'. She made the documentary 'Black Wind, White Land - Living with Chernobyl' which has been seen internationally.

Became the first Irish woman to be elected to the board of the International Peace Bureau in Geneva.

Addressed the UNESCO Conference on Chernobyl and the Manchester International Peace Festival

Won the European Woman Laureate Award and the Irish Person of the year award.

1994 Led the first 'Chernobyl Children's Project' convoy with trucks and ambulances for the area effected by the nuclear accident.

1995 Began the airlift of Chernobyl children for medical treatment

1996 Organised the visit of 1,200 children from Chernobyl for one month's

rest and recuperation to Ireland, the UK and the USA

Presented with the European of the Year award for Ireland

1997 Led a convoy of 31 ambulances and nine trucks to Belarus and Western Russia valued at over £2.5million.

The Summer Project provided holidays for 1,500 Belarussian and Russian children. Was appointed to the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland.

September 1997 - Endorsed by Labour, Democratic Left and the Greens as the People's Alliance Candidate for the Presidency.
