Feng Shui (pronounced fung
shwee) literally means wind and water. It is an ancient Chinese study
of the natural environment.
Have you ever wondered why some places make you feel tense or drained,
while other places leave you relaxed or energised?
Feng Shui is all about balance, comfort and harmony. Feng Shui is not
a religion or a mystical belief. It is a science, which offers the ability
to create a balance in your home or work place, based on the analysis
of energy (chi).
For every energy force there is an opposing or complimentary force.
The
forces of Yin and Yang are complementary, dark and light, female and
male, which maintain the balance of the cosmos.
Feng Shui is based on common sense, logic, and ancient mathematical
calculations.
 |
YANG
representing heat and light is rising.
|
 |
YIN
representing cold and darkness descends.
|
Each
of the 8 Trigrams below are made up of a combination of YANG and YIN.
Although YANG and YIN are opposites they compliment and merge together
to form a perfect circle as seen above.

The PA KUA symbol is probably
the most important symbol of Feng Shui, each of the eight sides represents
a specific meaning in Feng Shui and it also symbolises powerfull protective
energies.

The
Lo Shu or Magic Square as it is sometimes known, is also used by Feng
Shui masters.
Using the numbers from 1 to 9 in a unique arrangement, the sum of any
3 numbers in any direction horizontally, vertically, diagonally will
always amount to 15.
I have taken this a step further by using the outline of the PA KUA
to construct a magic square. Each of the nine outlines have been joined
together to produce the graphic below to illustrate the diversity of
the calculations used in Feng Shui.
