CODE OF DISCIPLINE

Greendale Community School provides a high quality education at secondary level and at post Leaving Certificate level. It is committed to high quality teaching where students attain to the best of their ability and enjoy an enriching experience, in a caring atmosphere, where good order and discipline prevail and where the spiritual and human values of the Trustees are promoted. The need for personal and professional fulfilment of staff is recognised and the collaborative role of parents in education is respected. All members of the school community are encouraged to treat each other with respect and courtesy. The support and co-operation of parents/guardians are essential to maintaining the school ethos and the effective operation of the Code of Discipline.

Parents’ Role

Parents are asked to keep closely in touch with the school regarding all aspects of their children’s progress. It is important that parents check and sign the journal at the end of each week.

The Code of Discipline Aims to Achieve the Following:

  1. A good learning environment for students.
  2. The fostering of self-esteem, self-discipline and responsibility in students.
  3. Respect for the school environment.

In order to foster a positive school climate, the active support of parents/guardians is a fundamental requirement. All pupils, irrespective of their abilities, must be given an opportunity to learn. To ensure that this is not disturbed, there must be rules and regulations. Any behaviour, which interferes with students’ learning, is unacceptable. Rules and regulations are not intended to be irritating or unreasonable; they are intended to facilitate acceptable standards in the attitude, conduct, application and appearance of students.
