History:

Greendale Community School opened in 1975 primarily to serve the needs of the population of Kilbarrack/Foxfield. Its motto "non pueris solum sed omnibus" encompasses the notion of serving all members of the community. Greendale was a green-field school. The money to build it came from the World Bank. The government, therefore, went out of its way to provide the school. As with all other community schools there was a political rationale for building it. In a general way, the creation of Community Schools must be viewed against the background of Government policy in relation to Secondary education and the educational developments in Ireland and Britain in the 1960’s.
