How to get to Skerries
By Car
From Dublin:
Take the Belfast Road north (from city centre first follow signs to the airport) and take a well signposted right turn at Blake's Cross about five miles after the airport roundabout. The route is on a minor road from here and passes through the village of Lusk. (Total 18 miles from Dublin). Please note that tall vehicles will not be able to pass under the low railway bridge at Skerries and should approach the town either via Balbriggan or via Rush. To come via Rush take a right turn at Lusk (if you miss this turn watch out for signs directing coaches to Skerries Mills and follow them). The approach via Balbriggan is longer and is best attempted by staying on the Dublin Belfast road.
From Rosslare Ferryport go to Dublin and follow directions above.
From Cork/Waterford/West of Ireland
Enter the M50 Dublin ring road going north and exit at signposts for Belfast. This will leave you on the Belfast Road near the Airport Roundabout. Then follow signs for Belfast for about five miles until you encounter signposted right turn for Skerries at Blake's Cross.
From Belfast
Take the Dublin road through Drogheda and take the left fork for Balbriggan about three miles south of Julianstown village. If you miss this turn and end up on the motorway take one of three subsequent turnoffs for Balbriggan. Take a turn to Skerries at signpost in the Square in the centre of Balbriggan.
By Train (Click Timetable, select Suburban on menu then choose Dublin-Drogheda route).
Skerries is on the main Dublin-Drogheda-Dundalk line which also serves Belfast. Trains serving Skerries (Sunday service is limited) run from three Dublin city centre stations: Pearse at Westland Row, Tara Street, and Connolly at Amiens Street. Connolly offers the most connections. Travelling from Belfast change at Drogheda to a Dublin train. Skerries is about 15 minutes from Drogheda. Coming by train from Rosslare Ferryport, change at Dublin Connolly. Irish Ferry passengers arriving at Dublin's North Wall should take a coach or taxi to Connolly Station for a Skerries train. Sealink passengers arriving at Dun Laoire can take a DART electric train to Pearse, Tara Street or Connolly and change for Skerries. (Note: DART electric trains in green livery do not serve Skerries direct).
By Bus (Timetable)
The Number 33 service from Dublin City is the only regular year round Bus route bus serving Skerries. At the time of writing (May 2002) the direct service from the City Centre has been dramatically reduced by the state owned bus company and supplemented by an alleged shuttle bus service from the town of Swords which has led to widespread complaints. We do not recommend visitors to use this service because of its unreliability. Aim to get one of the few remaining direct services from Dublin or take the train.
From Dublin Airport
Although Dublin Airport is just 15 minutes by road from Skerries, bus connections by the Irish Government owned monopoly bus company are unsatisfactory. Either take a bus to Swords and seek an onwards connection to Skerries from there (ask your driver) or take a bus into Dublin city and take a train or a rare bus direct to Skerries.
