ISITA was inaugurated in 1996.

The objectives of the Society are to promote the awareness, study, and use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in relation to agriculture and the rural community - research, education, extension, agribusiness, farming and rural development. Membership is open to persons who use ICT in the course of their professional work or activities.

ISITA is affiliated to EFITA, (European Federation for Information Technolgy in Agriculture, Food and the Environment), which is a federation of National Member Organisations in European countries representing ICT developments and the applications in agriculture, food and the environment. http://www.efita.net
