Overview of Junior Chamber Galway

Junior Chamber Galway is an organisation for young people between the ages of 18 and 40 and is committed to leadership, development and fellowship. This is achieved through training courses and projects which are conducted in the community.

Junior Chamber is an international organisation and exists in a number of countries throughout the world. Junior Chamber Galway is one of a number of local chapters in Ireland. Each chapter has local meetings once a month and then meets with members from other chapters three times a year. These meetings are referred to as First National and Second National with the third meeting referred to as National Convention and is held in October of each year.

Together these local chapters make up Junior Chamber Ireland and there is a national committee with a treasurer, President, Deputy President as there is at local level. At these national meetings the local presidents discuss issues that might arise for the organisation such as projects that we may or may not want to get involved with. While the presidents are at these meetings, other members usually avail of the training and social events that are organised during the weekend. Local chapters vary a lot in size with some as small as 6 or 8 members. Galway is one of the largest chapters in the country more than 50 members.

Introducing Junior Chamber Galway

Founded in 1961, Junior Chamber Galway is a leadership development organisation, open to individuals between the ages of 18-40, who share it's ideals. It is affiliated to Junior Chamber Ireland, which in turn is an affiliate of Junior Chamber International, of which there are over half a million members, making it the largest youth organisation of it's kind in the world.

Junior Chamber is about opportunities. Through our activities, we provide unique personal development opportunities for our members while at the same time contributing to the economic, social and cultural development of our community.

In essence, what we do and how we do it, makes a difference to our members and to our community.

How We Operate

Junior Chamber is a non-denominational, non-political organisation. Our philosophy is one which encourages participation, be it as a member, project team member, project manager, council member or Chapter President!

As Benjamin Franklin once said:

Tell me and I forget
Teach me and I remember
Involve me and I learn.

When someone joins our organisation, they become a member of the local chapter - Junior Chamber Galway.

Any organisation is only as strong as it's members and so it is with Junior Chamber. Each and every member is important, not only to his/her chapter, but to the whole organisation. Everybody has something to offer, but more importantly, everybody has something to learn. While individuality is the cornerstone of our organisation, active participation is our hallmark.

The JCI Creed

We Believe,
That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life;
That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations;
That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise;
That Government should be of law rather than men;
That earth's greatest treasure lies in human personality;
That service to humanity is the best work of life.
