Aeons ago an ancient empire was wracked by internal terror, strife and the scamble to survive. This maelstrom of malevolence was brought about by intrigue and political infighting. Not the machinations of the rich and the ruling elite vying for position and power. Neitherr the struggle for self determination by a people bending under the yoke of tyranny. It was more, much more. More even that the struggle for life itself. 

For in these the Gods themselves went to War.

This ancient empire of Man was shattered. The peoples of the land slowly but surely carved out new kingdoms. From these initial beginings seven Kingdoms came to dominate the remains of the known world. 

Thus the Seven Kingdoms were born.
