The Irish Chess Union hosts this year's Glorney and Faber cups which will attract some of the strongest young chess talents from eight countries to compete in Dublin this summer. Teams of the best eight U-18 junior chess players (five boys , three girls) from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Belgium, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands will compete for the Glorney (boys) and Faber (girls) Cups over five days in Dublin City University.

This site will be updated with team selections as soon as these are known. During the event itself in July, full coverage will be provided with daily updates and game downloads. Assisting with commentary will be FMs Gavin Wall and Paul Delaney.

In the 1998 event held in the Netherlands, the Irish Glorney Cup team recorded one of their best results in recent years coming third behind the strong Dutch and Danish squads (the Danes have since been replaced by the Czechs). The result in 1999 in Belgium was not so good (sixth), but many of the players from these two events are still eligible and it is hoped that the good result of 1998 can be repeated or even improved upon.

The event will be held in the last week of July from Sunday 23rd July to Friday 28th July. Dublin City University has been booked as a venue and should prove ideal with accommodation and playing hall in close proximity.
