The Galway Motorsport Marshals Club was founded in February 1989 by Eugene Jordan, Ivor Gleeson, Gabriel Garrett and Ray Bent. All were members of the Galway Motor Club, and recognised the growing need for fully trained Motorsport Marshals.
Mike Smith who was Clerk of the Course for the 1989 Lydon House Galway International Rally, agreed to provide all the Marshals with packed lunches, and make a donation from the rally funds, to kick start Galway Motorsport Marshals Club.
Today Galway Motorsport Marshals Club has over 60 trained marshals on its books. The Galway Motorsport Marshals Club is the biggest club of it's kind on the western seaboard, and enjoys a great reputation with motor clubs throughout Ireland. Our
cartoon depicts one of our founding members Christy Glynn, who took all that the Irish
weather could throw at him on the 1990 Lydon House Galway International Rally, and still
he came back for more! The cartoon was drawn by another founding member Sean Meyler in
1990.
