Just a note for everyone to think about. The recent shoot in Ballina had
to be cancelled at short notice. Don was away and it was just by luck that I got word of the cancellation. This allowed me to get an email notice out and fortunately no one travelled to Ballina. In this case we were lucky, but it highlights the problem of communications in field Archery.
Don is doing a great job keeping us up to date each week with the IFAF
site.
I am doing my best to annoy everyone with this rubbish whenever I can.
We both have email lists which may on may not be compleat.
Not everyone is on email nor does everyone check their email before
going to a shoot.
With the best of intentions not everyone checks with the shoot
organizer before going.
So if I might make some suggestions ( I will anyway)
As email is the quickest and easiest way to send information could
everyone please ensure Don and I both have any email addresses you use. Don't forget to check them before going to a shoot.
If you don't use email or are not in a position to check it the evening
before going to a shoot. Please make sure Don and I have your telephone No. or someone else who is going and checks their email has it.
Last but not least check with the organizer
I'm sure you will all agree there is nothing like the fun of arriving at a
cancelled shoot. |

I'm Back
|
|
I am sorry to tell you all that I have
reconnected to the web site and despite all objections will be updating it throughout the season. It may take me a while to get all my settings back but I fear you will have to live with that.
Let me first off say welcome to all the
new archers. The numbers turning up for the open shoots is growing year by year and long may this continue.
But and there is a BUT, as the
numbers taking part increase so MUST our awareness of safety. We have had no accidents as yet and only our constant vigilance to safety will keep it this way. It is up to all of us to ensure that the sport grows in a friendly and safe manner.
So to one and all keep up the good
work and keep it SAFE. |

OK I'm in trouble again. Here is Don putting on a shoot to entertain us
all in his usual Priestley style. What happens ? Mothers Day. So I must apologize to Don in advance as I will have to give it a miss. After all it's not often I get my son to PAY for a meal.
However I must envy those of you who are going as I have no doubt it
will be a great day |

Littlewood Shoot 13/04/03

to do Sunday 13th should prove to be enjoyable at Littlewoods. Shamus and John have gone to great lenghts to provide target faces and some new shots.
However that will not be the only differance.
For some classes there will be an added difficulty. This is something that is long overdue and I hope will prove sucessfull.
So what is it, bring your bow and find out.
As per usual we will be providing Tea/Coffee
and sandwitches at a cost. Registration is at 10am for a 1030 start. Hopefully the boiler will be HOT for that all important first cuppa.
If you know you are shooting on the day
Please Register Now as it will help with the organisation and the provision of refreshments
See you ALL on Sunday

Carrowmore Archery
(Chris Sheldon)
|
|
After years of tuning, perfecting set ups, refining
techniques, designing measurement tools and generally being a PIA Chris has finally done it. At Carrowmore Archery Chris will set up and tune your compound Bow/Limbs, correctly spine and build your arrows, string and service your bow. All you have to do is shoot straight. It's no wonder he keeps bringing in such high scores. You can contact Chris by email for further details |

Once again someone smiled on us from on high and the rain stayed away for most of the day. From the
comments everyone enjoyed the shoot and the black pegs went down well. However beware all you Compound and Unlimited archers, the fun is only beginning.
For some it was the first time they had shot a forester round and it proved to be interesting in it's variety of
shots. One archer commented that every time they have come to Littlewoods we have had a different type shoot. Well there is nothing like variety and we will try to keep it up not only with the type of shoot but with the layout of course.
On that note I would like to say thanks to Shamus and John for all the work they put into the layout and remind
Littlewoods members that the next shoot is only a matter of weeks away and there is more work to be done. Some of you may have noticed that although Ron and Vona were present for registration they had to leave just after the start. I must take this opportunity to thank them it was a long way to come just to get us all away. On behalf of all those hungry archers I must thank Carmel and Brendan for providing the catering.
Since Don will be putting in a great effort to update the IFAF site with results I will leave it in his capable hands.
Let me say congratulations to all for taking part and well done to those who are making a collection of arrowheads.
The shoot finished a bit earlier than I would have expected with 28 targets. So the question is whether or not the
next shoot should go from 30 to 40 targets. Me thinks a mail shot with a vote might be in order. If anyone out there has any ideas on the no. of targets we should put up or the time we should aim to finish shooting let me know.
Now last but not least let me Thank all those who braved the weatherman and turned out to shoot, without you
Field Archery in Ireland would cease to exist. We have a sport that transcends generations and abilities let us all try to enhance and promote the sport by our various efforts. Lets not forget that in some cases we have 3 generations shooting and anything that encourages our young people to get out and about has to be good for all of us. |

Donegal Classification
Shoot
|
|
Don't forget the Donegal Classification shoot
on Sunday 20th. For those who wish to participate in National and International competition Classification is required to compete against archers of similar ability.
I have been assured that no target will be over
75 meters (I think it's time I got glasses). However you do need 3 classification shoots to qualify so get going and good luck. |

A Question of Seniority
|
|
Nice to see Jim Rose turn up at
Littlewoods on Sunday even if it was only to ensure Gilbert could find his house. But his arrival did lead to the closest thing we had to a controversy. It all started when he referred to Don as 'Son' in the course of conversation. This then lead to a review of age and just before a shoot-out was called Carmel produced coffee.
Lets hope we see Jim back shooting
at Littlewoods soon |

On Sunday it was mentioned that it would
be a good idea if we had somewhere to advertise archery kit for sale. Well it may not be the best place for it but there has been a Forum on this site since it started. This allows you to comment, reply to comments, seek or give help and to advertise kit if you so wish. It's pretty well up to you. The only thing I can do is delete comments that might offend. When you enter a comment it goes directly to the forum and can be viewed or replied to directly.
For those of you who have been too lazy to
look through the links or site map it is located under Anything Else. Just to show you that I am all heart here is another link to it. |

Portlick Scout Camp
|
|
On Friday 25th and Saturday 26th of April we spent the
days introducing 120 Scouts in Portlick to the ancient sport of archery. With absailing, canoeing, snorkeling, pioneering and orienteering going on at the same time we had our work cut out. However at the end of the camp I can safely say archery was the biggest hit with many scouts returning for second and third goes. It was not just scouts that enjoyed it some parents and leaders turned up to try out.
As a number of scouts would have tried archery before at
various camps it was nothing new. I believe our success at Portlick came from the way we introduced archery to them. Although we presented them with target archery we did it as field archers. For most it was a surprise to find out that archery did not necessarily require you to stand at a line shooting at round targets. There are other forms of archery out there that accessible to all. As I was kept going with the archery I have no photos this time but there will be another.
I would like to thank Shean Mimnagh for asking us to
facilitate the camp and the scouts for assisting us during the two days. I hope we will be able to do it again.
I must also on thank Brendan, Shamus, Mark and John
for helping out and indeed Jason without whose help over the two days we would have had difficulty managing. |

Rain, Rain and more Rain but what a shoot. From the
reports I got it was a well thought out course and Don and his team must be congratulated on a great shoot. There is just one problem I can see. After all the rain and two days of great shooting the next 2 Day will have a lot to live up to. On behalf of all archers on this side of the water THANKS |

Littlewood Shoot 18th May
|

Well I can't say that the sun was shining all day but at least it sopped raining now and then. With
nearly 50 archers turning up it was just as well. As usual when things got bad Carmel was there with tea and sandwiches..On behalf of all there I must say thanks not only for spending the day serving but for all the preparation she put in beforehand.
Unlike Don I make no claim as to the quality of these reports (glowing or otherwise). I just try to tell it
as it was on the day. If anyone else wants to dispute it send me an email or put it in the forum and it will find it's way here.
As I am a lazy git I will leave it to Don to post the results and just congratulate all those who took part.
As some of you may have noticed I got one or two wrong at the time but recovered well after ( a few pints of water that is).
I would like to thank Don and Brendan for putting the tent up on Saturday. I am only sorry they didn't
tell me I could have stayed for breakfast in the Rose Cafe. On my way through Longford I spotted a rather decrepit bunch standing around looking very shifty. Stopping I realized they were a gang of pirates coming to Littlewoods to relieve us of our hard earned prises. Boy did they do that, I think as many arrow heads went south as anywhere else. I have to say it was a pleasure to have some new faces around even though for some reason I seamed to get all the abuse ( it has to be my good looks).
It was a long trip up from Wexford but I hope it was well worth it. Thanks for making the effort and I
hope we will get to see you all again.
It was suggested to me that it was one of the more difficult courses set out at Littlewoods in a long
time. However when I asked around I was told no we have had harder in the past. So does this mean we have to create a more challenging shoot for the next one. If that's the case I think it's time for me to take up tiddlywinks. I would like to thank John Cassin for pegging the shoot and those members involved in preparing the course. Last but not least Thank's to all the archers who turned up and made it great day.
Don't forget a the party on Sunday 1230 at Littlewoods (work party that is)
