This competition was a railroad job with the sole intention of turning the limelight on Influx and its' lone horseman of mediocrity, Glen Brady. Those who witnessed this shambles agreed that the second and third-placed djs (Tu-Ki and DJ Splyce) both far outstripped Brady's performance. Even with the ruthless excision of major competitors, Brady was far from the pick of the bunch. According to one hip-hop head, the worst six minutes from Mek's set at Urban Breakz the previous Friday would have pissed all over anything he heard that night in Ri-Ra. The sole consolation is that the competition in Paris are going to tear Brady a new asshole, as he'd realise if he touched down in reality once in a while.
As long as this kind of bullshit continues there is no hope of development within the Irish music scene. The major players in this country are a crew of stunted toads with the morality of a dog in heat. For them the music is an irrelevancy, the punters just stooges in their gutless con games. Scannell, Spollen, Moy and Brady have broken hip-hop commandment number one: show respect and pay your dues. If Brady has any self-respect he'll show up at the independently organised soundclash taking place at the Funnel on the 25th of October. Hopefully Tu-Ki, Splyce, Mek, Troubled Soul and the other real contenders on the Irish hip-hop scene will get their due there. Nobody pulls the wool over our eyes.
