Tinsel, wreaths, nativity cribs, boubles, christmas trees, fariy lights and holly are just some af the decrations used at Christmas time.

Decorations are a huge part of Christmas in Ireland and around the world.

Many families in Ireland put up Christmas trees and Nativity cribs in their homes (see 'Traditions')

In Dundalk there are lights put up along the main streets. The shops all put up individul decorations. In our school there are Christmas trees put up around the schools and there is a large Nativity crib put up at the office.

This is a description of the decorations already mentioned:

  • Tinsel is shiney paper cut into strips and stuck onto string.
  • Wreaths are branches of evergreen trees tied in a circle with decorations stuck to them.
  • A nativity crib shows a scene from Jesus' birth.
  • Boubles are ball shaped decorations that may be shiney or glittery.
