Raiders A Viking raid nearly always came as a total surprise. The Vikings were expert navigators. They decided on a target and planned the attack in advance. The Vikings had superior weapons and were well trained and usually got what they wanted. Traders The Vikings were the international tradesmen of their time. They appeared as traders in Finland, Russia, Byzantium, France, England, Ireland, The Netherlands, Iceland and Greenland.
