SCHOOL MAGAZINE

On Monday night May 10th our school magazine Maristian ‘99 was launched in the School Hall. Our last publication was Maristian ‘91, so this magazine of over one hundred pages, is a compilation of articles, events and photographs since that date. Essays, stories, tributes, recipes, quizzes, word searches and many articles were contributed by sisters, staff, (some of whom retired in the late ‘90’s), pupils (past and present) and members of the community. Photographs of reunions, some weddings of past pupils of the 90’s, basketball, soccer, football and class photographs are in abundance.

A great number of pupils and parents attended, together with the sisters and the teaching staff. The launch began at 8.30 p.m. with the sale of the magazine and at 9 p.m., Mr. Tommy Marren of N.W.R. began the proceedings. After reviewing the magazine, he introduced Mr. Michael Middleton (Principal), who praised the work put into the magazine and thanked all those people involved in it’s production. Fr. Frank Gallagher launched the magazine after he made a very eloquent speech. The parents’ committee provided the tea/sandwiches and cake while minerals and biscuits were provided for pupils.

The magazine is available in many shops in Tubbercurry and the Transition Year class will be selling it door-to-door in their own areas. You can order a copy by contacting the school @ 071-85781.  Price:  £5 (Postage £1.50 extra).  You can contact us by e-mail at maristss.iol.ie.

Maristain ‘99 will be a great memento to have as we say goodbye to the 20th Century. Past pupils will find it most interesting, so don’t miss your copy of it. Please support the school by purchasing your copy soon.

On Tuesday 4th May 15 members of our class went on a retreat to Esker Monastery, outside Athenry, Co. Galway. We were accompanied on our trip by Fr. McHugh and Mrs. Collins. During our retreat, we discussed important issues, such as our future careers, our exams and relationships. We finished our retreat on Wednesday 5th at 7 p.m. and then went into Galway city where we did some shopping and went to the cinema to see "Water Boy". We found the retreat very helpful and we would like to thank our facilitators Ann and Tom in Esker. A special work of thanks to Fr.
