ALEX (notes from talk) Brainstorm around commonality - shared vision. Diversity of methods. Many people see links between campaigns. Alex sees a lot of crossover. Where do the campaigns meet? Where do the campaigns part? Strengths + weaknesses. Shared agendas - pool of knowledge. What are we mobilized against? We need to come together to take stock. Alex is into organic academia: - _why_ are we acting in the way we do in the mvt? Action generates more action. Why do we do what we do? How do we do what we do? What are we acting against? Are there common themes? What are the divergencies? Use of word _react_ -> means no control or newness (?) _Proactive_ is better. Alex: - _reaction_ is sometimes necessary What are we acting against: - destruction of the environment, empowerment of women, a new value system? Where do we start? None of us are single issue people? Is the question too broad? The New World Order. - Graham Will not allow ethically wrong things to happen. Isolde. - Moral fundamentalism, The Emperor's New Clothes - Richard Morality is personal: - why do we do what we do - Donal Graham - what you put in, you get back. (kids + TV) Anna - teach people to develop their ethics Maeve - morally, we should trust people to do this. Graham - stop thinking Laurence: - the morally right thing is _not_ obvious to everyone. Ethics does _not_ tell us what is right, because everyone interprets it differently. The issues we address are the ones that mean something to us psychologically. Power structures cause difficulties with interaction, which cause problems from the bottom up. How do we communicate to others the interconnections? Donal: - we all want to reduce suffering. Richard: - all are concerned to be activists. Alex: - we have a common problem. What? Graham: - we have a microchip society. Pauline: - Humanity is driven by greed, cruelty + delusion.
