50th Celebration

Weekend Schedule, June Bank Holiday, 2010
Friday, June 4th
- Fun day in the school for present school children
- Night at the Dogs. Everyone is invited to a celebration Night at the Dogs at Galway Greyhound Track. Buster Race tickets will be available for €20. First prize for the Buster Race is €500, with many other prizes also. This ticket includes entry to the track.
Fun activities for children are included as part of the evening.
Saturday, June 5th
- School opens at 1pm and all are welcome to the many events which will be happening:
- Activities will be organised for younger children
- Photos from over the years will be on view
- Projects from yesteryear and by current pupils will be on display
- We have Roll Books from all three Killeeneen schools and all of these will be on display. If anybody would like a copy of the year of their inception into the school, we hope to be able to provide this for them. The pages will be available in three different formats: Mounted in a frame, laminated or as a page rolled as a scroll.
- We are publishing a book about Killeeneen and its schools. This will be available for purchase over the weekend.
- 6th class children are producing a DVD about the history of Killeeneen National School. This will be showing in a classroom and will also be available for anyone interested.
- Mass. At 3pm a concelebrated Mass will mark the 50 anniversary of the present Killeeneen National School. This will take place in a marquee at the rear of the school. Pupils past and present as well as parents and the whole community are very welcome to this mass. In fact we expect to have a substantial crowd present, celebrating and remembering.
- The official opening of our new extensions will take place at 4pm approximately.
- Bishop Martin Drennan will bless the extension to our school immediately afterwards.
- Complimentary refreshments will be available in the school at 4.30pm.
- From 5 – 6 pm, the school children will provide entertainment in our marquee. This will conclude the events of the afternoon.
- From 8 ‘til late, we will have entertainment for adults in the marquee. Music will be provided and anybody who plays music, sings, tells stories.......will be more than welcome to join in. Professional caterers will provide the food and there will be a charge of €10 to cover costs.
This promises to be a wonderful opportunity to meet old friends and acquaintances, catch up on the years and have a chat. All of that to a background of music, good food and good will!
Sunday, June 6th
- Sunday will begin with a nature/historical walk in Killeeneen, which starts at the school at 11am. Gordon D’Arcy will lead this walk.
- At 3pm, we will congregate at the school again for a Fancy Dress 7s Hurling Competition for past pupils. We will have 4 teams with past pupils from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. John McIntyre could be present to spot the talent!!
- Some fun activities for younger children will follow, including penalty shoot outs, face painting, etc.
- Presentation of medals to the winning hurling team will take place in the marquee at 5pm, followed by the conclusion of the weekend events.

We will also be putting information on our school website on . A webpage will be set up specifically for the 50th Anniversary Celebrations.
