Welcome to 6th Class
Comic Strip Writing
We made our own Comic Strips. Enjoy.
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
In 6th class we studied the following paintings by Vincent Van Gogh:
Starry night Over the Rhone
Cafe Terrace at Night
Starry Night
We compared the three paintings and also looked at images of the night sky, focusing in particular on the stars. We then painted our own fabulous interpretations of The Starry Night.
We learned about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and found out some very interesting facts.
In a short period of 10 years Vincent Van Gogh made approximately 900 paintings. He only sold one painting during his lifetime and only became famous after his death. His brothers wife collected his paintings and letters after his death and dedicated her life to getting his work the recognition it deserved. Vincent Van Gogh suffered from temporal lobe epilspsy as well as other mental and physical conditions. He created his most famous work The Starry Night while staying in an asylum in Saint Remy de Provence, France. He wrote over 800 letters in his lifetime. the majority of these were to his brother and closest friend Theo. His brother Theo died six months after him and is buried close ot him in Auver, France.
Star Facts
1. Stars twinkle in the night sky because the light has to travel through the earths atmosphere. The movement of air in the earths atmosphere makes the light bend as it travels from the star to the earth.
2. Stars are formed when spinning balls of gas form inside large clouds of gas and dust. The gases heat up and light and heat are created.
3. Stars are made of gases such as Helium and Hydrogen.
4. Stars are not really star shaped. they are round like our sun. Artists draw them using a star shape to reflect the way they shine in the night sky.
5. No two stars are exactly the same.
6. There are over a hundred billion stars in the universe.
We also looked at Star Signs and made our own.
Goals
We made this lovely display of goals we would like to achieve. we decorated the board with butterflies, bugs and flowers which we made by sticking bits of crushed tissue paper on to pre drawn pictures. We also added sayings about being the best we can.
