Dear Parents,

There are a few items that I want to draw to your attention:

1. Fundraising
As you know, we are building our 8 classroom at the moment. Our 8 class (1 class) have to work in our GP room until the extra classroom is completed. The Department of Education gave our Board a grant of 100,000 euro to complete this project. We are extending our library as part of the building. We also need to build 2 dressing rooms so that our children will have an appropriate place to tog out and store their playing gear. At the moment the contract signed is to extend the library, build the classroom and provide the foundations for the dressing rooms. We simply do not have the money to build the dressing rooms. Any funds that we can raise over the next while will all be used to construct these dressing rooms. I would ask you all to support the fundraising plans wholeheartedly as the children really need the dressing rooms.

2. 50 Birthday Committee
I asked for volunteers to join the committee that will organise the celebration of our school’s 50 birthday next year. I got 10 volunteers and they have had their first meeting. As decisions are made, I will be in touch about this again. In the meantime if you have any old photographs/documents pertaining to the school, I would love to see them. We hope to put lots of records on display at the event.

3. Finance Committee
I asked for volunteers to join the finance committee and I got 8 volunteers. This committee has also had its first meeting and they have decided to have a special Christmas raffle this year. Excellent prizes are being gathered at the moment and shortly we will have tickets available to sell. So the committee is asking all families to make every effort to sell as many of the tickets as possible. They will only cost 2 euro per ticket. More later.

4. Christmas Cards
As you are no doubt aware, the children in our school are working very diligently at present creating wonderful Christmas cards. We hope to have these available in a few weeks and again we are asking that you use the school cards as much as possible. Could any of you ask your company to send out our cards? Do not forget to ask friends and extended family to buy our cards!

5. School Uniforms
Thank you all for voting on the issue of the introduction of a school uniform to our school. Thanks to those people who took the time to write notes to express their opinions. The vote is now closed and we had a fantastic response with over 90% of families voting. The results will be discussed at the next Board of Management meeting and the Board will be in touch in due course.

6. Carol Singing
Our school has decided to have a carol service in Roveagh Church on December 15 at 7.30 in the evening. All children from 4, 5 and 6 classes will participate. The evening will include singing, readings, mime and acting. We hope that it will make Christmas more meaningful for all. We are inviting you all to this event and hope that you will bring along your friends also.

7. Parental Support
I personally want to thank all of you for the great interest that you have in the school and in your child’s education. The fact that we have 16 people volunteering from among you for two committees is amazing! The fact that over 90% took the time to vote on out recent vote is equally amazing. Somewhere between a 50% and 60% return is the norm I am told! So thank you and please keep it up. These are difficult times for all but if we work together and co-operate, well nothing is impossible!

I hope this letter helps to clarify any issues that might be concerning you at present.

Yours sincerely,

______________
