Hurling
We usually start training in September because the Mini 7's competitions take place in October. We usually stop training after the Halloween break as the weather is usually poor. We start up again in Spring when the weather improves.
Every week, a coach teaches basic hurling and football skills to a class. The classes coached rotate during the year, so that all classes get a chance. We often train at lunch time with all classes from first to sixth getting a chance to practice their basic skills. We don't leave out our infants either! We do a spell of indoor hurling with both junior and senior infants every January to teach them basic hurling skills. We also take part in school competitions. This year we will be entered into hurling competitions for both boys and girls. We also love to take part in challenge matches and one day blitz competitions to give everyone a chance to play in the school jerseys.
On Tuesday November 15th, 2011, Killeeneen Boys hurling Team took part in the South Galway Mini 7’s hurling tournament. The tournament started at 11am and the first match for Killeeneen was against Ballyglass. The starting line up was as follows; Christopher Brennan in goals, Adam Clarke and Thomas Long as the defence. TJ Brennan and Hugh Lane started in midfield but were later changed to full forward. Mark Kennedy and Jack Murphy started up front. We progressed well through the competition and we eventually made it to the final. There were many subs at the sevens and they were interchanging all the time. The final was against Briarhill NS. Everybody on the starting team got on the scoreboard. The final score in the final was 4-12 to 2-0. All the subs played really well and here they are Oisin Shannon, Philip Ewing, Conan McCann, James Fox, Ultan Sheeran, Paul and Louis Molloy, Dylan Butler, Shane Fox and Cian O’Brian.
We would like to thank Ms O Callaghan, Mr Dolan and Mr Brown for training and for managing us on the day.
