Here's a few pictures taken by yours truly with a crappy disposable camera at Slane '98.
Special thanks to Ronan and Patrick for letting me 'hang
out' with them all day - and apologies to mickEy for not managing
to meet up (Sheesh, mickEy! There were 80,000 other people there.
I did try to find you
).
And, Bob.... You missed one hell of a day! I just hope you enjoyed yourself at work (muhahahahaa!!!)
Oh... And Brian.... You gave this
up for the BeeGees??? Sheesh, man, they're for the oldies!!! ![]()

Ronan and Patrick, around 1.30pm.
There's still plenty of space, and the day seems more like a picnic than
a rock concert. The music seems incidental at present.
(Note we have parked ourselves close to the fast food caravans)

1.30pm. A view down towards the stage.
Note the fact that some people have taken off their shirts.
The weather is being kind to us (Indeed, there will be some people
complaining of sunburn tomorrow - won't there Ronan?
)

Around 5pm. The place is getting crowded. And the atmosphere
has
livened up considerably since Robbie Williams took to the stage and
really got the crowd onto their feet. The 'picnic' feel has gone at last.

Here's a pic of yours truly, taken by Ronan around the same
time as the last one.
(I'm the one with the excuse for a beard, btw
)

Darkness begins to fall. I am worried if I go for a pee
now, I won't get back to
Patrick and Ronan, who are seen here trying to stay calm in anticipation
of the
band that we have all come to see (The Verve).

Everyone on their feet listening to The Verve.
What cannot be seen in this photograph are all the thousands of pinpoints
of orange light caused by people holding aloft flares. It took those of
us at
the back a while to work out just what was being used for the flares......

.... until someone close to us held up a burning Coca-Cola carton.
Now I understood just why people had been willing to queue for over
an hour all day to buy Coca-Cola.

And, as I am "head-banging" to The Verve, I become
aware that Ronan and
Patrick seem to have stopped paying attention. Did Patrick really pick
this
moment in (space and) time to call his girlfriend up on his mobile phone?
